The Kuba kingdom , currently the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was founded in the 17th century. Composed of more than 17 ethnic groups, it expanded thanks to the alliance between these different groups at the same time that its artistic industry proliferated.
Kuba fabric forms the basis of the ceremonial clothing of royalty. Kuba cloth skirts are used by both men and women during ceremonial rituals. The patterns on the cloth vary by gender.
The fabric expresses wealth status , hierarchy and personal transition states. These geometric motifs are composed by juxtapositions of very different elements, and are characterized by sudden changes in shape.
Each piece is unique and may suffer small variations as it is a handmade piece.
